About Us

The Gulf Guardians is a South Padre Island–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to protecting the Gulf of Mexico through environmental education, community outreach, and hands-on engagement. Our mission is to educate, inspire, and engage current and future Guardians of the Gulf by empowering people of all ages to become active stewards of our coastal and marine ecosystems.

We support classrooms and educators through environmental curriculum, professional development, and experiential learning opportunities that connect science to real-world impact. Beyond the classroom, Gulf Guardians hosts community events, beach cleanups, and sustainability initiatives—such as Plastic Free Padre—to reduce plastic pollution and promote responsible environmental practices.

Working alongside partners like the Surfrider Foundation UTRGV Chapter and other local organizations, we advance climate awareness, conservation efforts, and community-driven solutions. Our volunteers and youth members have earned recognition for their leadership and innovation, including science fair awards for projects addressing microplastics and marine pollution.

From Cameron County Beach Access #6 cleanups to educational outreach across the Rio Grande Valley, Gulf Guardians brings people together to protect what makes the Gulf Coast special. By fostering knowledge, action, and collaboration, we’re building a healthier Gulf for generations to come.
