About Us
At Ian Griffin’s Tennis Academy, we believe great players are built from the ground up—with strong fundamentals, consistent repetition, and a love for the game. Founded by Ian Griffin, the academy has spent decades helping players grow from their first lesson to elite competition.
Ian’s journey began as an assistant pro at Oakdale Golf & Country Club. With an LL.B./J.D. from the University of Toronto and varsity experience in both tennis and squash, he seemed destined for law. But after traveling the world playing satellite tournaments and sitting through six firm interviews, he knew his place was on the court—not in a boardroom.
The academy’s work has always been rooted in public courts—from Richmond Hill LTA to the City of Beaumont, and even Stade Amahoro in Kigali, Rwanda. Ian’s passion lies in developing players from day one to the national stage.
Following a Hopman-inspired approach that emphasizes fundamentals, repetition, and fitness, Ian has coached:
• Paul Beck (#2 in Canada)
• Jeff Boychuk (St. Louis Jr. Invitational Champion)
• Michael Wesbrooks (National Doubles Champion, with wins over Agassi and Krajicek)
At Kelly High School in Beaumont, his teams earned 4 state titles and 8 individual championships in 5 years. He also served 6 years as Head Scout for the USTA’s Houston Area Training Center.
Now, Ian coaches seasonally and sells equipment by order.
“Cooler than a fan. Best tennis coach I ever had.” — Eric Dmitrenko, 2025
