About Us

When I was first hired as an assistant tennis-teaching professional at Oakdale Golf and Country Club, I never dreamed that I would be able to make a living doing something that I loved. It was from a time when people asked, 'what are you going to do next?' (P.Everly)

I was raised to get a good education, and got one (LL.B./J.D. University of Toronto) while also playing varsity tennis and squash. It was after graduating, travelling around the world playing satellites, and having six interviews with downtown firms, that I realized I belonged in tennis.

Most of my time and the business life of Ian Griffin's Tennis Academy, have been on public courts at Richmond Hill LTA, City of Beaumont and Stade Amahoro Kigali Rwanda.

I specifically wanted to train players from their beginning, on to the national level. Using the Hopman-inspired model of fundamentals, repetition and fitness, I went on to train the likes of Paul Beck who reached #2 in Canada, Jeff Boychuk who won the St. Louis Jr, Invitational, and Michael Wesbrooks, who won the National doubles, and compiled wins over Agassi and Krajcek.

Our 4 state team championships included 8 individual championships in 5 years at Kelly High School in Beaumont; and I spent 6 years as Head Scout at the USTA's Houston Area Training Center of the USTA Player Development Program.

I now teach three months out of the year, and sell equipment by order.
