Ian Griffin's Tennis Academy IGTA
Professional Tennis Services
When I first was hired as an assistant tennis-teaching professional at Oakdale Golf and Country Club, I never dreamed that I would be able to make a living doing something that I loved: it was "from the time when people asked, 'what are you going to do next?'" (P.Everly) I was raised to get a good education and got one (LL.B./J.D. University of Toronto) while playing Varsity tennis and squash. I went around the world playing satellites, did 6 interviews with downtown firms -- and realized that I belonged in tennis. Most of my time, and the business life of Ian Griffin's Tennis Academy, have been on public courts: Richmond Hill LTA, City of Beaumont; but also The Oakville Club and La Crosse Country Club. I specifically wanted to train players from beginning to national level; and I did, using a Hopman-inspired model of fundamentals, repetition, fitness -- for players who lived at home. Paul Beck reached #2 Canada, Jeff Boychuk won the St. Louis Jr, Invitational, Michael Wesbrooks won National doubles, compiled wins over Agassi and Krajcek. Our 4 state team championships/8 individual championships in 5 years at Kelly High School in Beaumont: and 6 years as Head Scout at the USTA's Houston Area Training Center are part of the same role. I teach 3 months of the year now, 2 at Stade Amahoro in Kigali Rwanda (foto red clay), one on the grass at the Hall of Fame in Newport RI (foto); sell equipment by order; and BTW, luv it on SPI.
