About Us
The Museums of Port Isabel are dedicated to preserving the unique heritage, culture, natural history, and artistic traditions of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre region. Our mission is to educate and engage visitors by showcasing the stories and people that have shaped the community. Through exhibits, collections, and educational programs, we aim to foster a deeper appreciation for the history and cultural richness of this coastal area.
The museum is located in the historic Champion Building, which was built in 1899 by Charles Champion, a prominent local figure. The building’s façade features a striking fish mural painted in 1906 by a local fisherman. Inside, visitors can explore two exhibit levels that cover the history of the Laguna Madre area, from its early Indigenous cultures to its maritime and economic development. The museum offers a glimpse into the community’s past through a variety of artifacts, photographs, and interactive displays.
Our museum also features a gift shop, offering a variety of locally made crafts,
