SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX — After years of care, second chances, and a whole lot of personality, one of Sea Turtle Inc.’s most familiar residents is finally ready for a reveal we’ve been waiting on for a long time.
Meet Cowgirl. Or… maybe Cowboy?
First rescued as a small juvenile, Cowgirl has stranded and returned to Sea Turtle Inc. four different times over the years. Each time, our team treated her, rehabilitated her, and released her back into the wild—hoping it would be the last. But Cowgirl had other plans.
Because sea turtles don’t show obvious gender traits until they’re older, her name has always been a bit of a guess. Now, after years of growth and care, she’s finally reached the point where we can know for sure.
So we’re turning it into something fun.
On May 2, 2026, Sea Turtle Inc. is hosting “Boots or Bows? Cowgirl’s Gender Reveal Party”—a lighthearted celebration of a turtle who keeps coming back and the team that keeps showing up for her.
“This is one of those stories that reminds you why we do what we do,” said Wendy Knight. “Cowgirl has been part of our world for years. This moment is fun, but it also represents the long-term care and commitment that goes into every turtle we help.”
