11th Annual Summer Causeway Run & Fitness Walk 

 

South Padre Island, TX, September 8, 2026: South Padre Island is excited to welcome back the 11th Annual Summer Causeway Run & Fitness Walk. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 6:30 a.m. The South Padre Island Police Department, along with other City departments, will assist with the event to manage crowds and traffic control. 

 

“Our top priority is always keeping the public safe,” stated Claudine O'Carroll, police chief. “We want to ensure both the participants and visitors can enjoy their time on South Padre Island.”

 

Traffic delays should be expected before and after the event, however, the City will work to mitigate this while ensuring safe travel. Traffic cones will be placed on the roadway to direct traffic movement and minimize delays. 



Traffic control and participant travel plans are as follows:

 

Participants - Runners

  1. The competitive wave of the 10K run will commence at 6:30 a.m., and the non-competitive wave of the 10K run will commence at 7:00 a.m.
  2. The participants will begin at the Port Isabel Event and Cultural Center and continue towards the Island in the outside/right eastbound lane on the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge.
  3. Upon exiting, runners will turn right on Park Road 100 and continue south towards Isla Blanca. 
  4. Runners will exit Isla Blanca and head north along Park Road 100 towards the Beach Water Park for the finish line. 

 

Participants - Walkers

  1. Walkers participating in the 5K will depart 30 minutes after the runners at 7:30 a.m. from the Port Isabel Event and Cultural Center towards the Island in the outside/right eastbound lane on the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge.
  2. Upon exiting, walkers will turn right on Park Road 100 and head south until they reach the Beach Water Park for the finish line.

 

 

Vehicles

  1. All eastbound traffic on the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge will be directed to the inside/left lane using cones and traffic personnel.
  2. All westbound traffic will be unobstructed.
  3. All vehicle traffic travelling south adjacent to the running route on Park Road 100 will be merged to the inside left lane. 
  4. Estimated time for the temporary lane closures: 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  5. A tail-escort of emergency vehicles will be available until the end of the event.
